The TENCo cut vs the seed versions

The TENCo — founded by Gerry and Staks, pitching "European genetics and California flavor" — is credited with the original Blue Zushi clone and with popularizing the Zushi family. You'll also see Blue Zushi from seed companies: Dutch Passion (Kush Mints × Original Z, feminized), Growers Choice and Original Sensible Seeds. Those are their own lines of the same cross, not the TENCo cut. That's why two jars labeled Blue Zushi can look, smell and test differently. Where the "Zushi" name came from has never been officially documented.

What each parent brings

Zkittlez — now sold as "Original Z" after a trademark dispute — is Grape Ape × Grapefruit crossed with an unknown parent. It's the flavor engine: tropical candy, berry and grape, and a calm, happy high.

Kush Mints is Bubba Kush × Animal Mints, the Seed Junky cross that defined the minty-gas profile. It supplies the cool exhale, the pine and fuel, the dense resin, and the body weight in the second half.

The Zalympix win

At the first annual Zalympix in Los Angeles on June 26, 2021, Blue Zushi took 1st for Best Tasting and 1st for Best Overall against 16 competing brands. Zalympix is a Zkittlez-focused competition, so beating a field of Z crosses on flavor is a meaningful result. Two years later, Blue Lobster won Best Terps at the East Coast edition.

Blue Zushi Terpene Profile

Most sources list limonene and caryophyllene as Blue Zushi's lead terpenes (Leafly names those two), with myrcene, linalool and humulene behind them. There's one twist: in Dutch Passion's lab test, terpinolene was the top terpene in the 28% THC sample. The bigger story is quantity — those samples tested at 0.7–1.2% total terpenes, and Dutch Passion says Blue Zushi often reaches 1–1.5%, against roughly 0.6–0.7% for typical flower. • Limonene: The sweet citrus-and-tropical top note from the Zkittlez side, and a big part of the fast mood lift.
• Caryophyllene: Pepper and fuel, mostly from Kush Mints. It's the one common terpene known to act on CB2 receptors.
• Myrcene: Earthy and musky — the relaxing floor under the high.

The mint on the exhale isn't one terpene; it's the Kush Mints chemistry as a whole. A jar sold as Blue Zushi that's pure candy with no cool, gassy edge is probably a Zkittlez-heavy phenotype — or something else entirely.

Appearance

Leafly describes "dark green buds with nearly-blue accents and platinum trichomes," and that's the look: dense, chunky, forest-green nugs with blue and violet undertones on the sugar leaves, bright orange pistils, and a thick, glassy frost from the Kush Mints side. Grown cool, some phenotypes darken toward purple or even red foliage. The "blue" is real but subtle — expect blue-violet hints, not a blue bud.

Aroma and Flavor

Open a jar and it's sweet tropical fruit and berry candy first, then a cool mint and pine layer, then a gassy, funky base. Break a bud and the gas gets louder. On the inhale it tastes like tropical candy with herbal spice; the exhale is creamy and minty with pine and a diesel echo. Leafly's users vote mint, flowery and berry. Dutch Passion describes two phenotypes: one "fruity and a bit sour with lemon notes on an earthy background," the other "slightly more gassy and fruity." How Strong Is Blue Zushi?

Strong, and the best evidence is actual lab data rather than menu claims. In Dutch Passion's published tests of three seed-grown samples, Blue Zushi came in at 26%, 28% and 24.4% THC, with the 28% sample topping 30% total cannabinoids. Leafly lists 25%, growers commonly quote 25–28%, and AllBud's older 13–20% range looks out of date against current tests.

What's unusual is everything around the THC: those samples also carried CBG up to 1.8% and THCV up to 1.9%, plus a heavy terpene load. That's part of why reviewers say it hits harder than its number — and part of the answer to "is Blue Zushi all hype?" The lab data says no.

• Platinum frost with blue-violet hints, dense buds, trichomes inside the bud.
• A proper cure — dense buds hold moisture; hay or grass smell means it was rushed.

Good fit: flavor chasers, Zkittlez fans who want more punch, late-afternoon and evening social sessions, anyone who wants relaxation without being flattened.

How to Use Blue Zushi THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

• Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
• Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the candy and mint — and with a terpene load this heavy, it's worth it. Around 350–380°F keeps the flavor; 390–410°F hits harder.
